Imo Elders petition Buhari against Okorocha

Some elders of Imo state have petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari, urging the presidency to ensure that the will of Imo people was neither subverted nor subjugated to the whims of Governor Rochas Okorocha.

Also, they asked President Buhari to prevail upon the National Working Committee of the All Progressive Congress (APC) to uphold the primary election which produced Senator Hope Uzodinma as the flag bearer of APC in Imo State.

In a letter sent to the President and signed by the Chairman of Imo APC Elders Council, Dr. Edmund J. Onyewuchi, the elders expressed concern over claims by the governor that he had the backings of the President Buhari in his quest to foist his son-in-law as his successor in 2019.

They said: “We are concerned that the governor is boasting that he has your backing to make his son-in-law the next governor of the state. He used the recent visit of the Vice President to showcase the presidency’s seal of approval.
“We plead with Mr. President to cause Governor Okorocha to stop dropping his name in the evil plot to enslave Imo state. We also want him to cause the NWC of APC to respect the will of Imo people who have chosen Senator Hope Uzodinma as the flag bearer of the party in Imo state.

“Okorocha boasted in a live television interview that he was going to overturn the victory of Senator Hope Uzodinma as the APC flag bearer in the state.
“He said it will only cost him a visit to Aso Rock to achieve that, and curiously, the NWC of the party later ordered another Kangaroo primaries. “While we look forward to your timely intervention, may we humbly submit that any attempt by anybody or the NWC of APC to assist Okorocha have his way in Imo state, will be counter-productive.”
