One of the aspirants in the Imo state Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship primaries, Senator Samuel Anyanwu has rejected outcome of the primary election held on Monday. Anyanwu, who polled 1,282 votes behind Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, who was announced winner with 1,723 votes, told newsmen in Owerri yesterday that his party’s primary election was marred by irregularities, over-voting as delegates who were not supposed to vote were given tags and smuggled in to vote against the guidelines of the party. His rejection of the outcome, he said, was based on the alleged irregularities.
Anyanwu said: “Having consulted with my agent, an erudite politician and former state secretary of the PDP, Chief Rex Anunobi and after the primaries, we wanted to make his observations known to the panel that conducted the election but they did not want to listen because they came with a mindset.
“We want to let the world know that we’ve not accepted the result because we have realized that there were irregularities that contravened guidelines of the party “I think that as a movement, we’re going to the Appeal Panel and it will be an absurdity if the party does not set up any appeal panel to judiciously review the outcome of the primaries.
“We are six aspirants that participated in the election and out of the six, five others protested the issue of the delegates list that was manufactured, doctored and brought to the state three hours before the election. Ad hoc delegates’ list must come one week before the election so that aspirants can know who the delegates are and be able to canvass and sell themselves to those delegates.
