The Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressive Grand Alliance as well as Labour Party on saturday did not field any candidate for the Local Government elections in Imo State.

The PDP Chairman in Imo State, Barr. Charles Ezekwem who announced the boycott by his party said the elections would be a charade since the issue of local government elections is still in court.

Ezekwem also said that Governor Okorocha is only invoking contempt of court and the council elections will be null and void.

The Imo State Chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, Celestine Ugo also said his party was not part of the elections for the same reasons adduced by the PDP chairman.

The Chairman of Imo State Independent Electoral Commission, Mr. Ethelbert Ibebuchi however said fourteen political parties participated by fielding candidates for the 27 local government chairmanship positions and 645 electoral wards

Correspondents report that the elections recorded a low turn out with traders and commercial motorists running their businesses as normal.

Some persons interviewed claim that since the PDP and APGA were not participating in the elections, it meant there was no contest and therefore no need for voting.
