The people of Egwedu Community in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State have appealed to Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha to avert imminent bloodshed and breakdown of law and order in the community, by intervening in the over 16 years crisis over who occupies the traditional ruler’s stool and the seat of the President-General of the town union.
The chairman of Uburu Ahiara village in Egwedu Autonomous Community, and an Onitsha- based businessman, Chief Eric Uwaoma made the call while speaking with newsmen in his office in Onitsha Anambra State.
Chief Uwaoma who is also the chairman of Onitsha South Shop Owners Traders Association of Nigeria, OSSOTAN, Onitsha Anambra State, alleged that some people are benefiting from the crisis while the entire community is suffering backwardness due to the crisis.
He appealed to Governor Okorocha not to allow any election or selection of the traditional ruler of the community contrary to the stipulations of the court judgment of Monday June 11, 2018 which ruled that rule of law should be maintained in the election or selection of the traditional ruler of the community.
According to Chief Uwaoma, “in spite of the court judgment of Monday June 11, 2018, some people are still going about violating the court judgment, some have been going around the community boasting and dropping the name of Governor Rochas Okorocha and the Commissioner for Community Government Council, CGC.
“What the people that are behind the name dropping have succeeded in doing is inciting our people against Governor Okorocha and the Commissioner for CGC, they should therefore, quickly investigate the attempt by those people to illegally impose a traditional ruler on the people of Egwedu because we will resist it and it may lead to bloodshed.
