The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has disclosed it field a presidential candidate in the 2019 general elections. This comes as a surprise as the political part – known to be strong regionally in the south east – had earlier stated otherwise.
The former national secretary of the party, Alhaji Sani Shinkafi said in Awka today that the party will do everything necessary to reposition the brand as a formidable force in Nigeria.
According to the former flag bearer of the party in Zamfara State, Shinkafi said that
It was after due consultation and with respect to the emerging developments in Nigeria that the the party according to shinkafi has decided to field a candidate against incumbent president Muhammadu Buhari of the APC.
He said the party have therefor decided to zone its presidential ticket to the North while the South East specifically will be allowed to produce a vice presidential candidate.
APGA had been known in the past with the culture of endorsing other party’s presidential candidates – with the latest being its endorsement of Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP during the 2015 general elections.
The party that had the late Odimegwu Ojukwu as the founder currently has control of one state (Anambra) out of the 36 state in the federation.
It’s gubernatorial candidates for Abia and Nasarawa both lost at the 2015 polls.
